Had a conversation with hubby today about how Tiket.com grows, the overall technological system he built with the team as CTO, people management, staff welfare raise, bonus, valuation and such. The business definitely runs very well and has exponential growth.
My mind wandered back to the day when Wenas, Dimas, and Jeffry invited me for dinner in Bloeming FX by the end of 2010. They said they want to make a new startup and looking for some ideas & insights.
I asked,
“Memang kalian mau bikin startup apa?”
Wenas, who sat in the middle, asked Jeffry on his right side,
“Lo mo bikin apa?”,
then to Dimas on his left side,
“Lo mo bikin apa?”
I was silently giggling, seeing the way he asked was just like asking his friends “what do you want to eat?” or “which toys do you want?”. In addition to their chubby cheeks, young age and casual appearance wearing t-shirt and shorts, it was just too cute, lol.
Fast forward to a few months later, together with my hubby Natali, Kevin and Gaery, they founded Tiket.com. The first 6 months they spent merely on making proposal and approached potential investors. And just like me, most of the investors think they’re still too young. Hubby, at that time 30 year old, was the eldest among them. The rest were between 23 to 28 year old.
But that doesn’t stop them. On the same year they got first round of investment by an angel investor, and started to build the website afterwards. It took only 3,5 months to build and launch the website, with only 11 team members (including co-founders).
Within 3 years, the team grows into 166 employees. From renting a space right beside Dimas’ house in Slipi as working space, now they already have their own 4-storey office building in Kuningan. On the second year they’re already profitable and could afford to nourish the employees with fringe benefits. They also got achievements by winning national & international awards / competitions (that’s how hubby traveled to US, Dubai, Hongkong, Taipei, Brunei, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. for free! LOL)
