Yes, morality has nothing to do with religion. In fact, we, human, often mask ourselves with religious things to cover our rotten mental & hollow moral.
My lecturer who is also a priest, told us about that repeatedly. He confessed that long time ago, he was deeply suffered from his own hypocrisy.
He preached others about peacefulness, but he still couldn’t make peace to himself.
He preached others about forgiveness, but he still couldn’t forgive those who hurt him.
He preached others about anger management, but he was super sensitive and easily angered.
He preached others about acceptance, but he still couldn’t accept his bitterness from the past.
He preached others about marriage, but he still couldn’t be an example of a good husband & father.
The good thing is that he realized it was wrong, and felt the urge to change. He entered a counseling study so that he could learn more about the problem and get free counseling sessions until he’s totally healed. He found out that the root of his problem was his wounds from the past caused by his parents (especially his dad) who treated him wrong. He didn’t get a good example from them.
The problem with most people right now is, he said, most of us don’t even realize that we have mental problem. We are so settled with the problem, that we can’t even feel THERE IS a problem with ourselves. We couldn’t identify our own emotion correctly. We choose to live with mask. And sadly, the best mask is by being religious. Whenever a problem arised with others, we’re always pointing others BUT ourselves.
Those who refuse to change most, always demand others to change first. Are we willing to change ourselves?
