Had a good time on duty as moderator today at stage of @connectindonesia_ in JCC with @nelsenliu VP Marketing @fabelio discussing about “Online or Offline Store?”
When my friend who held the event asked me to become one of the speakers with any topic I like, I told him I prefer to be moderator specifically for this session because I need the knowledge for @sharingwardrobecom 😁
And yes I got some surprising facts and findings from this session. Here’s the summary:
1. Offline presence is still important even though the company was initially made for online. In Fabelio’s case, it’s most probably because:
a. Furniture shopping is not considerered as an impulsive buying. Because it needs a lot of considerations such as model, comfort, style, tone, price, etc. Thus they prefer to try before decide what to buy.
b. Experience. People buy furniture mostly on special occasion such as filling in new house / office / living space. If they’re married, the activity of choosing furniture is a nice experience to do with spouse or kids.
c. Validation. Sometimes the customers need advise and/or validation from someone before deciding to buy things that has long time usage and value. And that could be fulfilled by talking with sales representative at showroom.
2. In Fabelio, majority of the revenue stream comes from offline showroom instead of online store! Why? Because:
a. Compared to online store, it’s easier in offline showroom to do upselling and cross-selling (thus, more income).
b. Proximity between the customers and sales representative build trust, and thus creates retention.
3. No wonder Fabelio offline showroom now has grown in terms of number from only one outlet in Panglima Polim (which is also their head office), to be 28 showrooms spread in big cities, and many more to open next year 👏🏼
