DO’s :
- Write an APPLICATION LETTER. Unless you are a former President or headhunted, dont be too confident that your CV is impressive enough. There are probably hundreds of other applicants and how would your potential employer know you are worth to call for a test / interview ?
- Write an OPENING LETTER. Just attaching your CV & application letter in word/pdf format without giving a word in your email is just like sending a package to someone who doesnt know you at all without giving any note.
- Name file attachment clearly. Make your CV filename to be like : NUNIEK_TIRTA_SARI_CV_2008.doc instead of just CV.doc. It’d help your potential employer save and find your CV for his/her future reference. The same applies for application letter saved in word or pdf file.
- Send application using your current office email address. It’s a corruption of office faciltiy and your potential employer would think that you’d do the same if you work for him/her. Come on, there are so many free email providers : gmail, yahoo, hotmail, you name it! If your reason was because those sites are blocked in your office, it even worse: aren’t you suppose to work? Hello, can you do it outside office hour and outside the office, please. It’s just like sending a flirting SMS to a hot guy using your boyfriend’s cellphone, and you do it in your boyfriend’s house. Come on…
- Send application to the bearer who are just giving info. Especially if you got the info from a mailing list, read very carefully. If you fail to do this, your email would simply be ignored, deleted, or worst : blocked.
- Send application to more than one targeted employer within one email. Sending a mass application letter? It’d show how desperate you are in getting a job. It’s just like sending a mass love letter and hope that one of the targets will marry you.
