I've been wishing to do La La Land tour eversince I watched the movie.

Had the chance to do it last year, but determined to only do it on my birthday.

So there I was, celebrating my 38th birthday in La La Land with my loved one.

If you're also thinking to do La La Land tour, here's a list of places you can visit.

But before that, here's a story of why and how I did it :)




LA LA LAND . Ketika pertama kali menginjakkan kaki di LA (Los Angeles) pada tanggal 5 September 2013, aku merasa kota ini kurang berkesan dan aku tidak begitu suka, kecuali keramahan hostnya @los_collard . Waktu itu setelah 3 minggu keliling Washington DC, Rochester New York, Kansas City & Missouri, dan Las Vegas, kota LA terasa sama saja seperti Jakarta: kebisingan dan kemacetan khas kota metropolitan. . Pandanganku terhadap LA berubah total setelah aku menonton film @lalaland yang memborong Oscar 2 tahun lalu dan tergila-gila dengan semua yang ada di film itu. . Mulai dari ceritanya, musiknya, akting pemainnya, lokasinya, semuanya! Film ini mampu membuat aku jatuh cinta pada LA bahkan sebelum aku kembali lagi ke sana. . Aku sampai bermimpi suatu hari akan keliling lokasi syuting film ini di hari ulangtahunku. It goes along with each of its own history and costume story.
The trip was from 04 September to 07 September 2018.
It's part of my US Trip (SF, Berkeley, Napa Valley, Oakland, Las Vegas, LA).

11 PLACES TO VISIT FOR LA LA LAND TOUR

1. Griffith Observatory




Griffith Observatory 🔭 “The sensational view from the hill is just the beginning. The observatory itself is the real treat and a must-see while in LA. It is named after Griffith J. Griffith, a Welsh-American industrialist and philanthropist, who donated the land to the City of Los Angeles. . The observatory features a variety of space and science-related exhibitions. Its main draw is definitely the Foucault pendulum, a device proving the rotation of the Earth, dating back to 1851. You can also see one of the shows in Samuel Oschin Planetarium or look through one of the public telescopes that are available when the sky is clear. . Leonard Nimoy Event Horizon Theater opened here after the restoration in 2002. It's a 190-seat movie theatre with seating provided on a walk-in, first come, first served basis. It generally opens 10-15 minutes before a program begins. . You can see the Hollywood Sign from here and the park offers hiking trails that provide with great photo opportunities. Kostum Hijau Planetarium . 4 bulan sebelum keberangkatan, aku sudah sibuk mengumpulkan kostum yang akan dikenakan ke lokasi2 syuting @lalaland 👗 . Bagaimana caranya? Pinterest :) Buka aplikasi @pinterest , ketik kata kunci “la la land costume”, scroll up “more like this” 👌🏼 . Gaun hijau ini paling belakangan didapatkan karena paling susah dicarinya, itupun nggak benar2 mirip dengan aslinya 😅 . Tapi lumayanlah daripada nggak ada ya kan 🤷🏻‍♀️ Dapat di @ebay seharga Rp241.740.- dikirim dari China lumayan lama 🙇🏻‍♀️ . Nah karena waktu itu belum diet jadi pesannya ukuran L dan pas. Setelah berhasil #ketogenicdiet kan turun 6kg jadi kedodoran dan udah nggak sempet kecilin bajunya lagi 😅 . Gaun ini dikenakan Emma Stone sebagai Mia Dolan waktu dia makan malam sama pacarnya (di situ ada dialog yang mempromosikan Indonesia lho!). Tapi dia kabur dan memilih untuk nonton Rebel With a Cause di bioskop bareng Ryan Gosling sebagai Sebastian. Di tengah pemutaran film baru mau ciuman tiba2 filmnya mati 😅 Mia spontan mengajak Sebastian ke Griffith Observatory, mereka berdansa dan akhirnya ciuman di sana 😘 . 2. Smokehouse Restaurant




2. The Smoke House Restaurant (Part 2 of 10 @lalaland story) . Tempat kedua yang kami kunjungi adalah Smoke House Restaurant di Burbank, tepatnya 4420 Lakeside Drive Burbank, CA 91505, persis di antara @unistudios dan @wbpictures (nggak heran banyak selebriti yang sering datang ke sini). . Di sinilah Mia pertama kalinya terpaku melihat Sebastian main piano, dan pada saat yang sama Sebastian dipecat karena tidak mengikuti instruksi bosnya untuk memainkan lagu-lagu Natal 🎄 . Uniknya di film itu, lokasi antara Mia jalan kaki melintasi tembok grafitti dengan restauran ini di dunia nyata jauh jaraknya, 6km. Di sini juga aslinya nggak ada piano yg dimainkan Sebastian. . Pertama kali kami datang ke sini pada pagi hari sebentar saja dan belum buka. The Smoke House Restaurant Review 🍽🥂 Pada salah fokus sama gaun biruku ya, hahaha.. Tenang, nanti pasti aku ceritain beli di mana ya. Masih banyak foto pakai gaun ini di beda lokasi :) . Sekarang aku mau review dulu tentang pengalamanku makan malam di The Smoke House Restaurant di Burbank, LA ini yaa 😊 . Sebelum datang ke sana, aku sarankan kalian reservasi dulu deh di @opentable supaya dapat tempat. Soalnya rame banget! . Kami tiba di sana hari Jumat malam pukul 20.30, telat 30 menit dari jadwal reservasi. Lagi rame2nya, semua meja penuh terisi. 🙇🏻‍♀️ . Awalnya resepsionis bilang kami harus menunggu 30 menit untuk dapat tempat 😰 Untung suami ingat, kan kami udah reservasi 😅Akunya lupa, hehehe. . Sekitar 10-15 menit kemudian kami sudah dapat tempat yang sangat strategis untuk nonton live musics 😍 Video suasananya nanti aku posting setelah ini. . Sebelum ke restoran manapun biasanya aku cek menu di @zomato dulu, jadi begitu sampai di sana aku udah tau mau makan apa, nggak buang2 waktu lagi 😊 . Makanannya, aku pesan Stuffed Salmon en-plank ($26,95). Suami karena udah kenyang makan macaroni cheese di Griffith jadi dia cuma pesan Crab Stuffed Mushroom aja ($13.95). Dua2nya enak! Sharing berdua segitu kenyang. . Minumannya, aku pesan baileys, suami martini, masing2 $6. Dua2nya banyak banget isinya penuh segelas 🍸Kalo di Jakarta cuma seuprit kan biasanya 😅 . Oya, tamu yang datang bisa difoto dan dibuatin kartu pos gratis dengan foto kita lho! Kalau mau beli foto cetak besarnya juga bisa, 1 for $15 or 2 for $20. Kami beli 2 buat kenang2an, lumayan 😊 . The Smoke House Restaurant Atmosphere . Ini suasana di dalam restorannya, ramai dan seru, semua orang ceria dan bersenang-senang di sana, great vibe 💖 . Ada yang merayakan ulang tahun ramai2, ada yang berduaan seperti kami, dan yang paling ramai merayakan entah apa tapi mereka teriak: “Cheers for Season 4!” . Di sini memang terkenal tempat artis dan kru TV atau film kumpul karena lokasinya sangat dekat dari Universal Studios dan Warner Bros Studio. . Malam itu kebetulan lagi ada 2 live music, geser videonya buat lihat yang lagi main siapa aja ya. . Kami karena dapat meja di indoor jadi kebagian yang Marvin Robinson, he was great, aku suka 😍 . Videonya aku bagi jadi 3 masing2 30 detik biar muat karena instagram post maksimal semenit. . 3. Rialto Theatre Pasadena




3. Rialto Theatre Pasadena (Part 3 of 10 @lalaland story) 🇺🇸 Tempat ketiga yang kami kunjungi adalah Rialto Theatre di 1023 Fair Oaks Ave, South Pasadena, California USA. 🇺🇸 Dibangun pada tahun 1925, Rialto Theatre di Pasadena ini masuk dalam daftar National Register of Historic Places. 🇺🇸 Sayangnya, bioskop ini berhenti beroperasi sejak 2007, dan gedungnya ditutup untuk publik sejak 2010. 🇺🇸 Padahal gedung teater ini bisa menampung 1200 orang (duduk) dan bisa buat orchestra juga. 🇺🇸 Di tempat inilah Mia & Sebastian pertama kali kencan menonton film Rebel with a Cause dengan alasan riset untuk casting film :) 🇺🇸 #nutstory #nutsjourney #nutstrip #nutsluv #nutstyle #nutslyfe #us #nutsinus #nutsinla #pasadena #losangeles #california #america #lalaland #lalalanders #rialto #rialtotheatre #rialtocalifornia

This is supposed to be a movie theatre, named the Rialto, somewhere in Los Angeles. We see it three times in this movie: two very brief drive-by scenes, and one lengthy scene when Sebastian & Mia meet there on their first real date. . The first brief glimpse of this theatre comes just before the restaurant scene, after Sebastian has suggested to Mia that they see the movie "Rebel Without a Cause" at the theatre – since she admitted to him that she had never seen the classic film. . Mia drives past the theatre to take a look, noting the title of the film on the theatre's marque. And the final brief glimpse is a virtually identical scene, later in the movie in which she drives past the theatre again, only to see that it has closed down. . But the big scene shot here comes in between those two, where we see Sebastian waiting at the theatre, waiting to see if Mia shows upfor their informal date. . Mia has been out on a date at a restaurant with her current boyfriend, but at the last minute she decides to keep the date at the theatre with Sebastian, and happily runs out of the restaurant. . Sebastian is waiting inside, as the movie begins, hoping she will show up. Arriving late, Mia runs to the front of the darkened theatre, looking for Sebastian. They spot each other, and she sits next to him, as they watch the movie, and romantic feelings develop between them.. . But just as things are beginning to heat up, the vintage film breaks, while they are watching the scene from "Rebel" that was filmed up at the Observatory. Mia suggests that they go there in person. . There are actually two different theatres named "The Rialto" in the Los Angeles area. One, which is NOT the theatre used in this film, is an old theatre in downtown L.A.'s Broadway Theatre district. . The Rialto Theatre in "La La Land" is the other Rialto Theatre, and the more famous of the two, which opened as a combination vaudevill / movie house back in 1925. Kostum Pasadena . Ini kostum yang paling nggak disangka2 dapetnya. Nggak terlalu mirip juga, warnanya pun beda (lihat yang aslinya di 2 foto terakhir). . Tadinya aku nggak terlalu ngoyo juga buat cari kostum ini, karena toh di scene filmnya juga cuma tampil sebentar banget. . Eh ndilalah pas lagi cari makan di @plazapondokgede tercinta kok ya pas ketemu baju ini di bazaar lantai dasar, cuma 100rb aja 👏🏼 . Sebenarnya foto ini saltum alias salah kostum, karena waktu di bioskop kan Mia Dolan masih pakai gaun hijau (lihat di postku yang Griffith Observatory). . Tapi saltumnya ada alasannya. 4. Chateau Marmont




4. Chateau Marmont (Part 4 of 10 my @lalaland journey) . Destinasi keempat adalah Chateau Marmont, hotel tempat Mia menginap setelah dia sukses menjadi aktris besar dan ada show di LA. Kami ke sini sebentar saja hanya untuk foto ini 😅 . Tadinya sih mau menginap di sini di hari ultah, tapi pas lihat foto & video kamarnya dibandingin harga kamarnya yang paling murah aja $700 alias lebih dari sepuluh juta rupiah per malam, kayaknya kok kurang worth it ya 😅 . Katanya hotel ini tempat retreatnya para bintang Hollywood karena lokasinya agak ngumpet di pojokan (meskipun bentuk istananya dari jauh juga udah keliatan) makanya mahal banget 😅 . 5. Colorado Street Bridge Pasadena




5. Colorado Street Bridge Pasadena (Part 5 of 10 @lalaland story) . Jembatan ini dibangun tahun 1912 dan waktu itu jadi jembatan paling tinggi di dunia. Panjang 1.486 kaki, titik paling tingginya 150 kaki, dan menghubungkan kota Los Angeles dengan Pasadena yang waktu itu masih terisolasi. . Scene filmnya di tempat ini cuma sebentar banget, kayak sekilas aja waktu Mia & Sebastian pacaran. . Nah di sinilah harusnya aku pakai kostum pink tadi, tapi karena nggak ada tempat berhenti jadi cuma lewatin aja gitu di jembatannya, sayang.. . Padahal jembatannya ini cantik banget apalagi kalo pas sunset, kayak di foto terakhir. 6. Grand Central Market (Part 6 of 10 my @lalaland journey) . Grand Central Market ini surganya pecinta makanan yang ada di tengah kota LA. Ada banyak pilihan makanan dari berbagai negara di sini. . Kami ke sini berdasarkan petunjuk tour guide untuk mencari Sarita’s Pupuseria, tempat Mia & Sebastian makan di masa pacaran. Tapi sudah bolak balik ngga ketemu 😅 . Sebenernya agak kecewa sama private tournya karena kami di sini nggak dianterin cuma diturunin di seberang jadi buru2, mana lagi lapar2nya. . 7. Angel's Flight




7. Angels Flight Railway (Part 7 of 10 my @lalaland journey) . Sama seperti scene di film waktu Mia dan Sebastian pacaran, dari Grand Central Market kami lanjut naik Angels Flight Railway. . Ini adalah semacam kereta mini yang menghubungkan Hill Street dan California Plaza. Relnya curam, justru itu yang unik. . Untuk naik Angels Flight ini langsung aja, bayarnya pas sudah turun di atas, $1 per orang sekali jalan. Kalo ngga mau bayar lagi ada tangga :) . Kami begitu sampai di atas, bayar terus minta turun lagi karena tournya lagi2 cuma ngedrop aja dengan alasan susah cari parkirnya 🙇🏻‍♀️ . Angels Flight Railway History 👼 . Angels Flight is a landmark 2 ft 6 in narrow gauge funicular railway in the Bunker Hill district of Downtown Los Angeles, California. It has two funicular cars, Sinai and Olivet, running in opposite directions on a shared cable on the 298 feet long inclined railway.The funicular has operated on two different sites, using the same cars and station elements. The original Angels Flight location, with tracks connecting Hill Street and Olive Street, operated from 1901 until it was closed in 1969, when its site was cleared for redevelopment. . The second Angels Flight location opened one half block south of the original location in 1996, with tracks connecting Hill Street and California Plaza. It was shut down in 2001, following a fatal accident, and took nine years to commence operations again. The railroad restarted operations on March 15, 2010. . It was closed again from June 10, 2011, to July 5, 2011, and then again after a minor derailment incident on September 5, 2013. The investigation of this 2013 incident led to the discovery of potentially serious safety problems in both the design and the operation of the funicular. Before the 2013 service suspension, the cost of a one-way ride was 50 cents (25 cents for Metro pass holders). After safety enhancements were completed, Angels Flight reopened for public service on August 31, 2017, now charging $1.00 for a one-way ride (50 cents for metro pass holders). . Although it was marketed primarily as a tourist novelty, it was frequently used by local workers to travel between the Downtown Historic Core and Bunker Hill. 8. “You Are The Star” Mural (Part 8 of 10 my @lalaland journey) . Satu adegan penting di film La La Land adalah saat Mia jalan sendirian dari pesta setelah mobilnya diderek.. Dia melintasi mural ini dan mendengar lantunan piano, yang membuatnya berbelok masuk ke restoran. Di dalam dia melihat Sebastian main piano dan dipecat bosnya. . Nah di dunia nyata mural ini ada di area Hollywood, sedangkan restoran tempat Sebastian main piano aslinya ada di Burbank (lihat postinganku yang The Smoke House Restaurant). . Scene di filmya itu malam hari. Tapi kami ke sini siang hari bolong jadi pas lagi panas2nya. Mana pas jam istirahat kerja jadi macet dan dilihatin orang2 😅 Tapi gapapa fotonya jadi bagus toh? “You Are The Star” Mural Story . Driving around Hollywood will expose you to a number of sights affiliated with the golden age of Hollywood and the collection of murals fits this category. The purpose of the murals is to immortalize the stars who have made up the rich history of the city. . Located at the southeastern corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue is the You Are The Star Mural. It was painted by Tom Suriya and features a colorful rendition of people sitting in a movie theatre, watching you. . This audience is special because it features famous faces like Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, and Clark Gable. It is as if these famous folks are watching you on the big screen instead of the reverse. . It should also be noted that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are dancing up the aisle in this imaginary theatre, enjoying a performance of their own. The mural is located four blocks west of Vine and six blocks east of Highland. . Kostum Biru Halter Neck . Banyak yang suka kostum ini ya? Dapetinnya juga nggak susah 😊 Kayaknya baju ini paling duluan yang berhasil aku dapatkan deh. Dan mirip aslinya juga (lihat foto tiga terakhir). . Again, cara carinya di @pinterest dulu trus browsing yang mirip2. Ini dapat di @aliexpress.official harganya $30.76 dirupiahin jadi 379.370 kurs bulan Mei lalu. . Itu harga yang gratis ongkos kirim ya. Kalau nggak pakai ongkos kirim sih ada yang cuma belasan dollar tapi ditotalin sama ongkos kirim jadi lebih mahal. . 9. Hermosa Beach Pier (Part 9 of 10 @lalaland journey) . Dermaga pantai Hermosa ini adanya di Southern California, sekitar sejam nyetir dari Hollywood area. . Dibangun sejak 1904 awalnya murni kayu semua. Tapi tahun 1913 sebagian hancur kesapu ombak jadi kemudian dihancurkan total, ganti yang baru sekalian. . Panjang dermaga 300m menjorok ke laut, dan jalannya diaspal. Di ujung dermaga banyak orang mancing ikan, dan pada dapatnya buanyak bangettt, takjub deh 🎣 . Di sekitar dermaga ada banyak cafe2 tempat nongkrong yang asik, salah satunya Lighthouse Cafe yang nanti akan aku bahas juga :) . 10. Lighthouse Cafe





10. The Lighthouse Cafe, Hermosa (Part 10 of 10 my @lalaland journey - oh wait! I just realized actually there are supposed to be 11! 🙊) . The Lighthouse Cafe ini terletak di 30 Pier Ave, persis di depan Hermosa Beach Pier yang aku posting sebelum ini. Untuk sampai ke sini, suami menyetir 1,5 jam dari hotel kami di area Hollywood. 🚗 . Di sinilah semasa PDKT Sebastian memperkenalkan jazz yang bener ke Mia dan meyakinkan dia bahwa aliran musik ini nggak boleh mati selama dia hidup. Kemudian di masa pacaran, Mia sudah menyukai jazz dan terlihat menikmati berdansa diiringi musik jazz 💃🏽 . Lucunya, waktu datang kan kami parkir persis di depan sign The Lighthouse Cafe seperti yang terlihat di scene La La Land (padahal tadinya hampir salah parkir di tempat yang agak jauh). Foto2 dululah ya di situ sebentar, kemudian ke dermaga mengejar sunset sebelum tenggelam (padahal ngga ada mataharinya juga). Baru habis itu balik lagi ke Lighthouse buat nonton jazz shownya. Spectacular after-sunset at Griffith Park 😍 🌅 Did you know? 🌅 Based on @imdb trivia on @lalaland movie page: The crew had a limited time window of 30 minutes (director of photography Linus Sandgren said it was exactly between 7.20 - 7.50 pm) within two days to film the magic hour dusky purple twilight Hollywood Hills dance sequence. According to Damien Chazelle, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling managed five takes in two days, where after each take, they would go back to the starting point with the assistants wiping their sweat before starting the dance routine again. The fourth take is the one used in the final film. 🌅 So if you come to Griffith Park for sunset, don’t leave too fast. Pertanyaan yang paling sering ditanyakan selama posting @lalaland journey: siapa yang motret? Kalian sewa fotografer pribadi? 😅 . Di hari pertama La La Land journey, sesuai permintaan suami, kami sewa private tour dan inilah penampakan sopir/guide/fotografernya :) . Sebenernya private tour itu bisa buat 6 orang makanya lumayan mahal ($570+tax). Tapi kami ngga rela berbagi momen dengan orang lain ;) . Tadinya kukira tournya 2 hari or at least 8 jam gitu. Ternyata cuma 4,5 jam, ke 8 tempat. Jadi masing2 nggak lebih dari 30 menit. 😅 . Makanya di lain hari kami kembali lagi ke tempat2 yang kami sukai, berduaan. Nah kalau begitu, ada bala bantuan namanya tripod 😉 . PS: tarifnya belum termasuk tips. A: Jujur aku bakal jawab nggak usah aja sih. Mihil! Mending uangnya buat yg lain.
     Lagian aku kuchiwa tournya buru2 banget dan di bbrp tempat cuma didrop doang.
