More than 94 people -mostly from web industry- gathered at Oh La La Café Thamrin last Thursday 10th June 2010 for the 2nd #StartUpLokal and #TechCrunch MeetUp. Participants were not only from Jakarta, but also Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Bandung, even Bali. And not only Indonesians, we have guests coming from India (Founder Creately.com) and Netherland (Director TokoBagus.com). It shows how Indonesia local startups are rising; supporting each other and we are united to put Indonesia on digital map!

About the event
Here’s rundown of the event:
· Opening words from Natali Ardianto as inisiator and also Rama Mamuaya as moderator
· First session, SparxUp updates from Herman Kwok
· Second session, sharing experience about Echelon 2010
o Tata from Scraplr.com sharing experience in pitching at Echelon. The biggest faults were the lack of preparation, no rehearsal, no backup, and language barrier.
o Satya Witoelar from Koprol.com sharing information about Koprol acquisition by Yahoo! It’s now official that he’s no longer a startup player and turn to become Yahoo! employee.
o William Tanuwijaya from Tokopedia.com sharing about strategy to be invested by venture capitalist. Educating market is very expensive, just focus on the products & services.
o Philippe Do from KrazyMarket.com sharing about Echelon. It’s recommended to attend, brings very good experience & networking.
o Selina Limman from Urbanesia.com sharing tips how to be well prepared in Echelon next year. We have to believe in our product, know the product well, and able to communicate it.
· Third session, Charanjit Singh from Creately.com, sharing about his experience in startups. Positioning and knowing your customer is the key!
· Leonard from AdMob sharing about mobile ads and its potential. For mobile internet traffic in Indonesia, Nokia is still No.1, while Blackberry No.5. And for provider, Indosat No.1, followed by Telkomsel. Android traffic is quite promising, 100% increase per month!
· Closing by Natali Ardianto, socializing Yahoo mailing list for StartUpLokal.

About #StartUpLokal
It’s a monthly informal meet up for Indonesian startup players & enthusiasts. It was initiated by Natali Ardianto after accidental meeting with Rama Mamuaya, Sanny Gaddafi, and Dondi Hananto on 14th April 2010. The first #StartUpLokal MeetUp was held on 6th May 2010 attended by 31 participants, quite big amount considering that it was just announced less than a week and via twitter only. Find updates on twitter via hashtag #StartUpLokal. Join Yahoo! Mailinglist by sending blank email to StartUpLokal-subscribe @ yahoogroups.com. Like FB Fanpage www.facebook.com/startuplokal and introduce yourself & startup there.
About TechCrunch MeetUp
It’s a free, independent meet up to celebrate five incredible years in tech with TechCrunch. It’s for people who are passionate with technology. Note that there were 352 TechCrunch birthday parties all over the world at the same time. Actually it should be 11th June, but since it’s the World Cup opening, so I –who happened to be appointed as Event Organizer by my partner SaGad- changed the date to 10th June 2010 merged with #StartUpLokal.

It was a blast; many participants even congratulate me as they said it’s a success, apart from the crowded venue. Yes I understand the space was so limited compared to number of participants, no sound system facility, no slideshow. It wasn’t originally my idea thou, but we chose the place because it opens 24 hour. And why is it important? Because the event itself may only take an hour, but the networking time takes much longer, and it’s the essence of the meet up! I spread a half box of my BundaGaul business card, and get around 30 bizcards in return. One big thing missing : no ‘family photo’ taken! We’re all so busy networking that we really forget it. I even forgot to bring my own digicam! Ah too bad…
I left the place at 00:30 after having long discussion with senior journalists from Swa Magazine together with Sanny, Natali and Urbanesia team, and Yohan from FOWAB. It’s a follow up from my coffee time with Pak Kemal Gani (the Director of Swa Media Inc.) last Thursday 3rd June. At that time Sanny happened to accompany me and then Natali & Selina joined us right from the airport after attending Echelon in Singapore. We brought ideas of how to get local start ups highlighted, getting known by business industry, and it was so kind of Pak Kemal Gani offering us of how he can help with SWA.
Next month we’re gonna held the #StartUpLokal meet up again in cozier place. We already had some participants offering us a good venue for free! If the space is limited, we’re going to announce it exclusively for those who have participated on #StartUpLokal 1.0 and 2.0. Then if we still have space left, we’re gonna open it for public via mailinglist, Twitter (from @nataliardianto & @nuniek) and FB Fanpage. So just wait and get ready!
